Phillipa has successfully completed the degrees, BSc (Genetics, Psychology and Human Physiology) and Hons (Psychology) Cum Laude at Stellenbosch University, as well as the degree MA (Counselling Psychology) at Rhodes University; she completed her internship at the Rhodes University Student Counselling Centre.

Phillipa offers services in English and currently specialises in working with young adults, adolescents and children with a range of psychological conditions. While Phillipa is guided by evidence-based psychological interventions such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as well as Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), her perspective is that mental health is multifaceted and subsequently her approach is strengths based and holistic. This includes acknowledging the inextricable connection between the mind and body and as such considering the role of mental, physical and social factors on overall health and wellbeing.

In addition to her private practice, Phillipa is currently a PhD candidate registered at Rhodes University. She has a special interest in health psychology, public healthcare and community based psychological interventions. Specifically, Phillipa’s research looks at the complex realities that act to either support or inhibit the provision of psychological services in South Africa.

Phillipa is also a contract lecturer at Rhodes University teaching and supervising research at an Honours level. She has published research in peer-reviewed local and international academic journals.
