Siposetu Krutani-Mtakati is a registered Clinical Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (PS 0141143) as well as with the Board of Healthcare Funders (PR 1052683). Setu has successfully completed the degrees, BSPYCH (Counselling) at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, where she had a supervised 6 months’ internship programme at the NMMU Missionvale Campus Psychology Clinic. For her postgraduate studies she enrolled for MA (Clinical Psychology) at Rhodes University. In fulfilment of her MA Clinical Psychology degree she completed a twelve months’ internship programme at Fort England Hospital where she rotated through the forensic, acute, substance abuse wards and handled outpatient psychotherapy cases while being supervised. She went on to do her community service at Komani Psychiatric Hospital where she was on also on a rotational basis placed in forensic, acute and substance abuse wards.
Setu offers services in IsiXhosa and English specialising in working with adults (individuals, couples and families), adolescents and children with a range of psychological conditions. Additionally, she conducts a wide range of psychological assessments such as medico-legal, cognitive and scholastic. She believes that the psychotherapeutic relationship should be a safe space that employs creativity and self-exploration. Psychotherapy helps you in making sense of your past experiences, can also help you explore how you feel in the here-and-now and help you find ways to maintain and sustain your mental health. She employs an eclectic approach to therapy, drawing from evidence-based psychological modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT).
In addition to her private practice, Setu also practices as a clinical psychologist at Fort England Hospital in the specialist ‘Substance Abuse Treatment Unit (SATU) where she conducts group psychotherapy and provides in-patient psychotherapy among other clinical duties. She has great interest in social issues such as Substance abuse, Gender-Based Violence and Women’s emancipation and Equity.
